- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 1 tsp salt
Filling:
- 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions:
-
Make the Crust:
- In a bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms a ball.
- Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
-
Prepare the Filling:
- In a large bowl, toss apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until well coated.
-
Assemble the Pie:
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Roll out half of the dough to fit your pie pan. Place crust in the pan and fill with the apple mixture. Dot with butter.
- Roll out the remaining dough and place over the filling. Seal and flute the edges. Cut small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
-
- Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, or until apples are soft and the crust is golden brown.
-
Cool and Serve:
- Allow the pie to cool before serving. Enjoy plain or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Enjoy your delicious homemade apple pie!
