Classic American Apple Pie

Ingredients:

Pie Crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 1 tsp salt

Filling:

  • 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Make the Crust:

    • In a bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    • Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms a ball.
    • Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Filling:

    • In a large bowl, toss apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until well coated.
  3. Assemble the Pie:

    • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
    • Roll out half of the dough to fit your pie pan. Place crust in the pan and fill with the apple mixture. Dot with butter.
    • Roll out the remaining dough and place over the filling. Seal and flute the edges. Cut small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
  4. Bake:

    • Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, or until apples are soft and the crust is golden brown.
  5. Cool and Serve:

    • Allow the pie to cool before serving. Enjoy plain or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Enjoy your delicious homemade apple pie!
